Does sneezing always mean snuffles? We have a couple of our Thriantas sneezing in my barn and now my little polish bunny that I take to and from school has been sneezing. She doesn't even mix with the rabbits in the barn right now so I don't know how she would get it from them. At school I keep her in pine shavings...could she be allergic to those?

A long time ago, when the girls were smaller, we had a rabbit that definitely had snuffles and died from it - there was the drainage and matted paws and she went quickly despite some suggestions from the vet(mostly large animal- not rabbit or bird vet). This doesn't really look the same. These rabbits aren't getting matted paws or yucky noises.

I just wanted to ask because I don't want to put them down if I don't have to.

Hello TariLynn,
No not every sneeze is cause for alarm but I would
isolate the sneezers away from the rest of the heard
for two weeks to a month till you are certain.
Just because there are no matted pause, nasal or eye discharge
does not insure that it is not Pasteurella. Though the problem
could be caused by a scent, like perfume or clothes detergent,
dust in the air or water up the nose. Err on the save side
and isolate.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

I agree with Ottersatin. Isolate them until you can figure it out. Look for anything that has changed: a new bag of feed that is dusty, different hay, dust from shavings, a new bag of particularly aromatic shavings, new cleaner or perfume... anything that could possibly trigger a reaction. The two situations may or may not be related. Just because your house bunny is not kept with the others does not mean that you could not have carried something to him on your clothing, shoes or hands.

Sometimes, as the weather gets colder and one starts closing windows and vents, things that did not bother people or animals in good weather suddenly are troublesome. Be aware of these changes as well when looking for causes.
