Of the seven bunnies, six are almost the same size but the one black baby rabbit is just growing so much bigger and faster. Is this normal for one of a bunch to be so much bigger than the rest? Not sure if this is a good thing, a bad thing, or just a thing!

I think it's just a thing, lol

If you're breeding for meat, then you want that rapid growth. Otherwise, I don't think it much matters. I'd be more worried about one that was much smaller than everyone else.

In a certain paired breeding, one color always ends up bigger than the rest...
My Chin x SF, the chin colored kit were always larger than the black kits.

That's interesting...
I'm expecting my first litters w/ Am.Chin + SF, I'll pay attention to that.

That's funny, cause my biggest is a black one and my smallest is a black one! One of the (agouti? Sandy? Chestnut? Wild color? What IS that color?) bunnies is close to the size of the big black one but all the rest are the same size with the one black being a wee bit smaller, but not significantly so.

__________ Sat Nov 10, 2012 11:20 am __________

Can anyone give me a second opinion on gender for this big black bunny? I'm guessing boy just from what I read on here about the distance thing. I know 2 weeks may be a little young to tell for sure but I'd sure like to start naming this litter! Since this one is growing so quickly and so nicely, I thought maybe I'd keep him as my next meat breeder buck for the Flemish Giant doe I'll be breeding in the spring.

that actually strikes me as a doe, because it's a triangle. But I am used to seeing it from the other side.

New to the sexing as well. Looks like a boy to me.

Regarding size difference, I have found that some of my babies grew faster than others, but at 5 weeks the littlest one (chocolate buck) is almost as big as the rest. The Whites were the biggest of all of them. I'm just thrilled they are all healthy.
