Nope. I know of several people in several breeds, who show their rabbits after they have had litters, mini rexes, hollands in particular, mini lop, but mainly the dwarf breeds. Had this discussion on a yahoo group and I was quite surprised.

There are some breeds, mainly smaller ones, which can and often do regain much of their "showability" (for lack of a better word) after nursing a litter. Commercial breed rabbits usually struggle to that end. The mass they lose so often is around their loins, hips, and hindquarters, and those are tough areas to rebuild on a rabbit that size.

Not trying to offend anyone, but for lack of a better analogy, think of what happens to most women so often after they've given birth to 3-4 children. Same general concept.

A great analogy, as I am often asked how I stay so small, and I reply, I haven't had any kids, all this would change after that.

what's the max you would let a show doe go before retiring to be bred.

Your analogy is kind of confusing to me... most women add weight to those areas after having kids.

When talking to a hairdresser one time, I mentioned my 3 kids, and he asked "Are they yours?" I must have looked blank, because he stammered "No offense, but you are so tiny, I thought they must be adopted!"

The point being that their hip area is almost never the same in terms of shape of figure. Out of any 1000 women you may want to choose for comparison, there probably aren't 10 of them whose figures look the same or better after having children. Not saying they're any less attractive, but their curvatures and figures are changed in undeniable ways. While they may have looked like Jennifer Lopez before they had their children, they're suddenly ready to model for a piece of plywood afterward.

__________ Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:54 am __________

1-When not raising bunnies out of her impacts your operation in a negative way
2-When the rabbit in question is no longer competitive in any serious or meaningful way

That doe is always going to carry her own genetics, but the only way you'll ever make use of it is by breeding her to a buck which compliments her in ways which lend to a litter of rabbits bringing out the best traits of both their sire and dam. Holding them back while trying to get as many legs and wins as possible is counterproductive more often than not. It's one thing to do so in order to get a GC on the doe, but quite another to simply build her resume for a wins list on her pedigree.

Well guess what. I dont know why or what happened here. But that show buck tuns out to be a show doe. And how i found out i was petting her and she stretched right out and started flagging her tail. I went what   . This is a doe i am sure of it. I took her out and sure enough he is a she.

Not impress at all after driving all that distance. :pickuptruck: Now looking for s show buck. Anyone????

Beautiful rabbits, Mary Ann!

You certainly have a terrible case of Rabbitosis Aquireosis... flying them in from California, driving all over Canada to pick them up... when you:

A. Buy an SUV for Rabbit Transport
or
B. Remove all but the driver's seat from your current vehicle

we will be here for you. :)

You mean people use back seats? :p There are no seats except the front ones in my SUV and it was that way before I got rabbits.

Of course, I do have three big dogs Hmmmm......
