Okay, so I have this 2 month old rabbit. Before, I've always been able to flip my rabbits on their back. But this one is crazy, I can flip it on its back, but as soon as I touch anywhere near its genitals BANG that thing kicks like no rabbit ever kicked before. Even if I just hold it on its back for more 10 seconds it goes ballistic. What am I supposed to do? Other than that, its a very tame rabbit but I really need to know if its a buck or a doe.

Flip it on it's back, one hand hold the neck and front paws or just the neck. Then grab a leg that is on the same side as your hand that's holding the neck and tuck that foot in with the neck. Use your free hand to sex. Or you can tuck both feet if you have to.
I'll get a pic.

Adding, small rabbits you can hold the neck and feet, larger rabbits, just the feet and use your thumb to press the head back.

My AmChin doe demonstrating how to hold big rabbits. She freaks out, I've got fresh scratches from her trying to get pics and hold her. I was too distracted, opps.
My AmChin cross demonstrating how to hold smaller rabbits, she didn't freak out.

Having the head lower than the body definitely makes a difference with the crazy ones. If your rabbit is not the calm type I would not put it on it's back unless the head is the lowest part.

I haven't tried turning them away from me and then flipping them. It would be too easy for them to get away if those feet got to me before I got to the feet.

You can also just start desensitizing the rabbits, it's usually touching the back end and back underside that gets them tense. Petting the Chin is how I got her to let me hold just one leg w/o freaking out.

I really need to know if its a buck or a doe.
Hello rabbitgirl,
if all else fails: Place the Rabbit in a brown paper bag,
shake it gently. If it rattles, it's a Buck, if not it's a Doe.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

Well, I tried doing it like that, but she just kicked harder and slipped out of my hands. I kept trying until she finally got fed up and bit me. She was already worked up though when I got her out so maybe I'll try and hold her awhile first next time, to calm her down. Lol, I just realized I'm calling it her. Maybe it's a doe!

__________ Wed Oct 10, 2012 7:07 pm __________

Thank you so much Ottersatin. I will definitely try that. Not!

What I do is flip them with their head back to my armpit, like you would hold a baby. You tuck their head behind your elbow, us the hand on that same arm to hold the tail down and use your free hand to expose the vent area....
