Sealpoints/sable points -how to improve their colour

I want to specialise in sealpoints

I noticed their coats aren’t clear white cream and have flecks of brown shading through the coat - some people actually call them “iron grey” but that isn’t actually a recognised colour I didn’t think

anyway I’d like to improve the colour of my sealpoints- does anyone know how to do this?

You should probably join one of the shaded lop groups on facebook. I know there is a way to clean them up, but I can't recall what it is at the moment.

Iron Grey is the name for the chin gene +tort - aaB_c(chd)_D_ee. It's a recognised colour under the British Rabbit Council (UK/Aus/NZ). I've also seen it referred to as 'sallander' as it's the same colour as the Sallander breed, known and recognised in UK and Europe.

Seal Point [sable point USA] is the shaded gene +tort - aaB_c(chl)_D_ee. When they have two c(chl) genes they are darker and more shaded on the body. For show, they usually carry REW or Himi, this gives a clean, clear body colour. But they are temperature sensitive and I've found they often develop sooty patches which remain until the next moult. The window for showing them is fairly narrow.

how would I get the clearer cream coats I’m the body and keep the shaded points?

Perfect choice would be a REW that has come from SP lines, as they do occasionally throw them. Then you know it will be self-based and also masking/carrying Tort.

Second choice, I'd use a siamese sable, as they carry REW/Himi and shaded is part of the SP makeup. Also you know they are self based - using a REW can be a gamble unless you know it came from self parents. REWs can mask either self, tan pattern (otter) or agouti and you don't want to introduce the latter two to your lines.

Depends on which mini lop you mean - the UK mini lop (US Holland) does come in Himi. I believe the US Mini Lop breed recognises Pointed White, which is the breed's name for the Himi gene.
