I just got 2 free NZW does!! :bunnyhop: The womans son went to collage and no longer needs his 4H rabbits so she was giving them away! Unfortunatly it was 3 but neighbors dog got the buck :( They are a little older, 2 and 3 years old, but she said they both had big litters over the summer so hopefully they are not too old for me to get a couple of litters out of them. Only problem is now I either need a buck or I am going to have to use my flemish giant.

She also has a 4 hole hutch and a 3 hole carrier that I am getting after DH gets off work, for $25!!! It needs the floor replaced, they used 1/2 by 1" plastic, its still in good condition but I dont trust plastic.

What a great deal! :p

Number 1 looks like a very nice doe. I'm sure number 2 will be just as nice when she is posed.

Good luck finding a nice buck. :) Maybe you could get a litter out of each from your Flemmie while you are looking.

I think once they are out of QT I will go ahead and breed them to my FG, they are just going to be used producing meat kits If I can bring myself to do it.

I really like X1, she is 3 but hopefully that isnt too old to breed. X2 is a bit more nervous right now once she settles down I will try and get better pictures of her.

I was under the impression that rabbits were good to breed for many years.

They can be, but not all are. As they age you may see more failures to "take", smaller litter sizes, or decreased lactation.

Since they had large litters during the summer, there is every chance that they will continue to breed well for some time yet. If you get a likely buck out of one of them, you could use him for future breedings. Glad you are putting them in quarantine... Never pays to skip that step!

the does I got this spring were 2-3 and a half years old with the 3 year old having litters of 9, 5, 11, 6, pretty close together. They look like nice does :)

YES, very nice does, congrats!

Looks like they were fed nice, with their thick coats and fullness bodies.

Def a score!

The price was right even if you get one litter each. If they weren't litter mates, you should save a buck from one and a doe from the other as back ups. The cage doesn't sound bad either even after you replace the floor. That's close to what I paid for my doe for the same reason. I love my NZW she is the sweetest doe I have. She kindles no less than 7 with the last litter being 10 (but she isn't more than 1 1/2 years old).

oops, they can't be litter mates if they are a year apart.

If they have the same sire and dam they are still full siblings, no matter how long between litters.

They are not closely related (forgot to say they are pedigreed) X1's sire is X2's grandsire, and other than through him they have no other relitives that are the same. I definitly want to keep a kit from the nicer looking doe. Now to start searching for a buck.
