Our new REW NZ buck has gotten so friendly and calm lately that he was just lying on his side letting me pet him while at the same time I could get a good look at his "tackle".

Don't you just love calm rabbits? We are slowly weeding out every rabbit that is the least bit timid or cross so all we will have left are what my mum calls "Those big tranquilized rabbits" lol.

But I noticed that Snow Ball has a large scab on the bottom of each testicle. Quite hard, dark scabs.

What should I do for him? If anything? And what would cause matching testicular scabs?

He could have irritated them by laying on the cage wire, or if he was housed in a growout pen, the other bucks may have tried to relieve him of his family jewels. I would spray them with Vetricin, or apply some antibiotic ointment. I would also check his penis and make sure it looks healthy. I have not seen any rabbit venereal diseases myself, but they do occur. If there is involvement with the rest of his "goods" I would suspect something of that nature.

If you find anything suspicious, post some pics and someone here might be able to advise you.

Give him a resting board or tile so he can be off of the wire if he chooses.

I am going to move him into a larger cage and give him a tile to rest on. He has been on his own for the last two months so no one has tried to castrate him. But he has gotten MUCH bigger since he went into a cage on his own.

And when I move him I will have a good look at his parts.

Have encountered the problem a couple of times this year, and treated it with Wal Mart's generic version of Neosporin ointment. A couple of treatments cured it up.

A flow-through resting mat is another good idea.

What is a flo through resting mat?

Its name is a slotted floor mat, and you can find it on the lower right corner of the linked page. I used what I refer to them as, mainly because they allow urine and feces to go thru instead of leaving it to accumulate on top of the mat. Air can also flow through the mat.

Thanks for the link! How well do they work? I have a rex with sore hocks too.

They work rather well, at least from my experience. In some ways, I wish I had them in all my cages (and soon, I may very well have them in all my cages).
