Animal hoarding--easy to hide, terrible in its effects on animals *and* children. Those poor kids; I bet they didn't feel they could mention a single thing to their teachers or school people (if they were even old enough to be in school yet). 
All the kitties gone. Yep. Probably starved beyond saving and sick into the bargain. I don't know what to suggest that anyone can do about animal hoarding, except keep your antennae up for the possibility. *sigh*
