I'm one of those people who LOVE variety, especially in my rabbit litters. I've been working for 3 years to establish the brown gene in my standard Rex. I've had quite a few "surprises" starting with the broken "Amber" buck that I bought who turned out to actually be broken black tort... Well, when life gives you lemons...he was the start of my red line and I am actually quite happy to have them. I'm getting some really pretty reds and broken reds now.

Oh yes, and that broken black tort buck, he also carried a Chin gene...OMG what was that person thinking??? Anyway I now have some nice chins, they also gave me some Silver Martins that I toyed with developing for a while. I decided against that this last weekend. It's just too daunting to have to have THAT MANY rabbits of one variety that may NEVER be recognized.

So I am REALLY happy about this litter, and another one that didn't have quite as much variety, but still all the brown based colors.
Corduroy had 10 kits on the 17th [my youngest daughter's birthday]and they are:
1 castor
2 opal
1 black
1 blue
2 amber
1 lynx
1 chocolate
1 lilac
Here they are at 1 day

and then again at 10 days when they have hair

Maybe now I might start actually breeding the same variety to each other. Novel for me:)

That is great! I love the variety with the mini rex and the possibilities of what you could get. It makes it very fun.

I wish you were closer, I am considering getting into the Rex but have not found any breeders close to me or even in NJ.

Wonderful.

I am a little irritated at the fact that I have the genetics for so many things and I keep getting otters, blacks and REW! LOL, I think I have some Ambers in this latest litter. Nothing in my herd carries non extension, ut I guess I will have my hands full with the Cals and Sables. I am emptying the barn of Mini Rex and Hollands, to make space for the other Rex Varieties I'm sure will pop up once I start heavy line breeding.
