I mostley breed red mini rex. I really don't keep much of what I get from breedings because I'm picky about how my reds should look. There are a few red breeders in MI, but honestly not that many and those who were, no longer want to do it anymore, so it's hard on the show table when you are competeing agianst yourself. I have heard of a few awesome red breeders but their stock is 100-200 dollars.
Now color should not mean everything, because type is important to, but I feel like it is a balancing act because I have had one with awesome type but had some smutt to him that i picked up at a show; took me a long time to decide if he was a keeper or needed to go.
My problem i have noticed when showing is honestly the color, it's the first thing a few judges have noticed and remark on really quickly, clean or smutty, to light, to dark. Its a challenge but I'm in love with the color and the passion at trying to get it just right!
