We do have a natural feeding section here, with plenty of good pictures to help ID your local weeds. In my case, I have a 14 breed back schedule and I am showing, so a faster weight gain is very important to me. Feeding higher levels is necessary, something that won't happen with natural feeding or a lower protein hay.

Sky,

If you want to boost your protein and still feed hay, try a ration of BOSS :D

As for the clover mix hay, if it is red clover, and hasn't been dried properly, or was cut while damp, there is a mold that will grow on it that is highly toxic to rabbits.

A good grass-based hay is generally sold as "horse hay" and will not overload the alfalfa percentage.

When getting a grass mix hay that has "prickly" stuff in it, don't worry about the rabbits as they will appreciate the weed ... it just leaves little stickers in your hands :(

I feed green brome that I cut with a pocket knife as needed, it grows just a few feet from my rabbits so it's nice and handy. Right now I have all my rabbit off weight because I want to keep weights up over the summer, but I have noticed that they like the brome better that some Kaytee timothy that was given to me, actually they wouldn't touch the timothy once they tasted the freash cut brome.I was covering a 2'x12' tin roof with the hay and letting it dry for 2 or 3 days before feeding but it got to be a pain.
