Terry is right about animals knowing what they need. I once had a doe with a touch of diarrhea. Normally she did not care for Shepherd's Purse, but when I offered it to her that day, she snatched it from me and chowed it down. It worked too!

Wow, okay! I guess if our yard runs out of thistles, we'll go borrow some from a vacant lot! :ninja:

Terry, that's really interesting... I wonder why I keep reading that there's no known toxicity. Strange. Obviously, there must be something going on, because you've got a couple of good examples, there.

Vit K is a necessary nutrient, it is not toxic in the sence that is couses a system to shut down-- but-- it is SOO important to the blood clotting process, than ingestion of too much, or the acuumuylation of too much, will trigger the platelets to start releasing the fibrinogen-- the little 'strings' that hold blood cells together, making them clot! Vitamin K is the opposite of a 'blood thinner' it is a 'thickener"

I was reminded by Random Rabbit that I had forgotten to post an update about Squeak. I don't remember how many weeks we gave her the Vitamin K.

I seem to remember realizing one day after three weeks that I had forgotten to give her the dose the previous day. Squeak was fine, so I tapered the use of the Vitamin K after that, watching her to see if she was alright. She was, and is still with us! :D

She continued to eat the Vitamin K mixed with banana, or mixed with oats and blackstrap. Now and then she would not finish it, but she ate enough.

I thank you all so much for your advice in this thread and another one!

Glad to her it.

I have now started with the disposable poison bait boxes. Anything else the dogs would try to bother. Supposedly is it "no second kill" meaning the dogs will not become ill if they eat poisoned mice or their droppings. Don't know how well that works, but I can't stand mice, and that barn is too big with to much stuff to do without. In the house I have great sucess with glue traps, but it is probably too dusty to use them in the barn.
