Hey friends, i hope everything will be fine on your side :)

I am willing to buy a male Lion Head in white color. Someone is selling me a rabbit by calling it a Lionhead but i have reservations on it. I am attaching picture of the rabbit, age is 40 days. Kindly tell me whether it's a Lionhead or not. The seller is saying that it has Pointed Ears which is a sign that it's Pure Lionhead, is it true.

Waiting for your kind reply :)
Stay blessed :)

A proper lionhead has rounded ears. How big is it, it shouldn't be over about 4lbs full grown.

There is every chance that it is a purebred lionhead, just a poorly bred one.

According to seller, it's the result of a cross between Male Lionhead and Female LionLop. I have no idea now :(

Sorry :( no idea about the weight it will gain when fully grown

a lionlop is part lionhead, part lop..... making this not a full lionhead.

it has long fur all over, which a lionhead does not. a lionhead has a mane(long hair around head like a lions mane, hence the breed name) and a skirt (long hair around the bottom of the body when posed, looking like a bed skirt somewhat). the face should have short regular fur as well as the "saddle" (the back, from the back of the neck and around the back down to the skirt).

i know there is a thing where genes just happen to go the right-wrong way and the whole body is longhaired (called teddy? maybe i'm pulling this from another breed? dunno)...

He is only 40 days old. Maybe the Mane around the head is not fully grown because he is still a baby ??? Can it be a reason ??? Sorry for being silly but i am a newbie :(

if you are on facebook there is several lionhead rabbit groups. they are VERY knowledgable, though they can be a bit high strung, in my opinion.

i'm sure someone there would be able to tell better then i. as i only had a trio for a few months.

Yes, he's got baby wool. They don't have a mane and skirt until they are older, at this age they all look like puffballs.

That being said, being a mix of lionhead and lionlop, it is not purebred.

They will shed out the longer hair on their backs and just have it around their necks and along the thighs. BUT even as kits the neck and leg hair should be longer, this kit may be a lionhead but I doubt he will have a very good mane and may not have the leg hair either.

These are my sisters lionlops, you can see the longer hair around the neck, but even these two wont have a full mane and it will be pretty sparse like their mother once they grow up.

I have already a female Lionhead in black color (picture attached), i hope i will have pure Lionhead babies from the pair :) Is it possible to get pure Lionhead babies from this pair ?? Infect Lionheads and Mini Lops are so rare here in Pakistan that i have no other choice than to breed this White Bunny with my Black lionhead.

Your doe has a very nice mane and trimmings on her legs and the white male does have the fuzzy coat of a baby lionhead so I think you will get at least some lionhead babies but they may not have as much mane as your girl.

You cannot tell if they are purebred or not from a picture and pointed ears DO NOT mean he is a purebred lionhead. You should ask to see pictures of his mother and father to tell if he is a purebred.

I would breed the two rabbits and keep the best looking male rabbit and breed him back to his mother to get more mane in the next litter.

You could also ask if you can breed your girl to the father of the white male for a small fee, and keep her best looking son as your breeding buck.

You will never be 100% 'pure' But if that is all you have to work with, then breed male offspring back to the full blooded mother. Then, male offspring from those litters can be crossed back to their aunts, and their mther/grandmother'

Something I found interesting-- When I bred Marsha to a Mini Rex, the kits turned out looking like lionheads, as did their half siblings who had a VC dutch marked doe as a mother. I bred Mearsha to a standard rex-- and the coats of the kits are very soft,m yes, but no manes. So what about the Mini rex caused manes?

Also, as Lionheads are not yet recognized, One's breeding program should be working towards producing animals that meet the working standard. I have found conflicting information as to what breeds were/are being used to establish the gene pool....

Thank you all of you for your kind and valuable answers and suggestions. Really helpful for me :) Appreciated, stay blessed DOOD, FROSTY RABBITS and other <3
