One of my 3 week old lionhead babies keeps getting a lot of poo stuck on its rear end. :x What are some things that I can do to help prevent this? Of course this would be my little one that had the mom (or at least I think this is what happended) jump on the back leg a week ago when they were still in the nest box. If the poo was only the little balls I wouldn't mind as that is pretty easy to clean up but there seems to be at least 1 poo that is a messier one that makes it very difficult to clean up. The litter is eating pellets and hay along with drinking water now. I gave them a little oatmeal in hopes that it will help clear this up. With them having longer hair this is a difficult task to clean up. And of course just to be difficult, the poopy baby just had to jump on top of a litter mate and get it on top of the other babies back.

I had some early weaned kits that had some enteritis. I would just soak their bums in water until the poop was loose enough to get off. I fed oats an hay until they could handle pellets.

For some reason it seems to hit my little ones at 3 weeks then at 4 weeks they are good as gold again. Definitely going to keep giving the oats to this litter though. Hopefully the worst is over and we will keep nice clean tushes.

Amanda, if you are experiencing poopy butt regularly, it may be how you are starting them on solids ... try sprinkling some oats in the nest box as they are opening their eyes for them to nibble on ... then, when mine have their eyes open, but are still in the nest box, I put in a shallow dish with oats in it for them to get to :D
