I forgot to add to my first post, has anyone ever tried to construct some type of grate to the plastic deep bottom cages? If so, how? Thanks!

I got a sheet of wire mesh that was a thick gauge with spaces I think 1/2 inch apart like in the picture. I cut it to the right size with wire cutters. To keep it sitting up 1 1/2 inches from the bottom of the pan, I drilled small holes in the bottom on the sides of the pan, and pushed some metal rods I had through the holes and across.

Oh that sounds like a great idea! Thank you!! I just love the high plastic sides and the large size of my mariocho cage, especially for a male who may spray

I love those cages. I have 2 large and 1 medium. I pick them up whenever I find them used. My favorite part is that they have very large top openings.

I may just purchase a few more of these. I was trying to find a good stacking system for 6 rabbits where I could avoid urine leaking out of cage but sounds like the wire stickers all have some drawbacks even with urine guards. I love the high sides and shelf on my Tommy cage. I put a litter box in it as well as a fleece black let on shelf. Pine pellets in the litter box with their hay and bowl of pellets. I haven't had trouble with any mess outside the cage. Just didn't know if it was "better" to keep them in the wire grates. Thanks so much for your replys!

While they may not be designed for stacking, I haven't had a problem stacking them. I have my large tommy cages on the bottom with 2 cages on top of them. I have 2 stacks like this. Been like that for a couple of years and no problems. When I clean them I just unstack them. In 2 of the 3 tommy cages I use litter pans which is a big help.

Thanks for the reassurance Ckcs. I am going to go with those and stack a couple here and there! If I am going to spray down the wire stackable cages, not to much difference in cleaning the tommys

-- Tue Jun 03, 2014 6:08 am --

Thanks for the reassurance Ckcs.
