It was open and then closed again. Not sure if just holding it like that or just a spot that sticks. They all were feeling good and again just kind of messed with the oats and alfalfa. Put them in a new bed of hay. Tried to get a picture of the other kits eyes and that they look full. I think all are okay.

They are looking good. Just use a little saline solution to wipe out any sticky spots. Just observe. Sure the kit is fine. Could be the bright light? Never know. You are keeping the nest clean and providing a good watch on them.

I use eye drops when i see that. Polysporin

Would this be better than Terramycin Antibiotic Ophthalmic Ointment? I have some that has been in the frig. for 3 years. Would it still be okay? I used it on my cat 3 years ago and then again last year. I am going to go to the store and get the tea and thought I might as well get some ointment went out, but if the Terramycin is still good I will use that.

Check store, can't get anything worth a darn without a Rx. Done.
Go to store get tea. Done.
Check date on Terramycin and only 1 year over. Done.
Make tea and put some raw honey in. Done
Clean Terramycin tube with alcohol. Done.
Go get kits and check eyes and all eyes are open. Done. :?
Clean eyes with tea anyway. Done.
All other kits start licking the kit's eyes so wipe tea on each of their backs so they can wash something else. Done. :x
Put kits back so they can mob Lulu again. Done.
Lulu nurses babies and jumps up on nest box shelf. Done.

You are a good mommy, Garden lady.

The honey was a good idea (antibacterial), but probably added to the "medicine's" appeal.

__________ Thu Oct 04, 2012 5:18 pm __________

I tried searching for info on expired Terramycin, but my search was inconclusive. Most drugs just lose efficacy over time so you need to up the dosage or frequency of application, but others undergo chemical changes which can make them dangerous. If it is any consolation, I have a variety of ointments that are wa-a-ay expired, and I have never had any issues when using them.

I tell you, something all the time. I know you know about the raw honey, but just for proof it works, my husband has Raynauds and his fingers were getting sores on the ends from working outside and getting cuts and they would not heal. It was so bad the tips of his fingers were turning black. He smokes and he went to the doctor and he told him to stop, but no. He told him to take a beta blocker and I told my husband he did not really want to get started on that. We were all taking probiotics and he had stopped taking them. I told him to start that again and to start eating raw honey. Well, he did and he also put honey on his fingers and his fingers healed. Magic stuff it is!

We also find mink oil (like for leather) is a good hand cream for things that won't heal. DD switched to the fresh produce department at work this week and her boss has a skin condition that is aggravated by working in cold conditions and the constant wetness on her hands. DD suggested that she try the mink oil paste and 4 days later was raving about how much better it was than even the medicated lotions the pharmacist had recommended.
