My second people Popple arivved last night. He was 12 days overdue. We had him checked yesterday, and he looked good. I really wasn't having any contractions so we headed home to get the milking done. We actually thought really hard about having him at home. But as the contractions got stronger but no closer together I started to get worried so we headed for the hospital. As luck would have it, our neighbor is a state trooper who was just leaving for work. He gave us an escort, so we made the 45 minute drive in 18 minutes. Chester Lee was born exactly 1 hour after we pulled into the parking lot, at 12:59 am. We're both doing great, and I'm hoping I can talk the doctors into letting us go home later today instead of tomorrow. Hubby had to go home for a bit this morning to do the milking, but he'll bring our daughter back with him when he comes. I can't wait for her to meet her little brother. :)

That is great news, Kota! Congratulations on the new addition to the herd. I wonder, is he a buck or a bull? Make sure to give his head a good sniff for me- new baby smell trumps even puppy breath in my opinion!

Chester Lee will have a great birth story- in the "hands of the law" before birth even!

Blessings to you and your baby!

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your newest popple! Glad to hear that mom and baby are doing well.

So stoic!! I imagined you having the poor child between hefting bales of hay from the loft, and then tossing down a few more...seriously. Take care of yourself....it's hard enough taking some time off from farm work....all my best wishes....

Thanks everyone. :) We're still going stir crazy in the hospital. Policy says we have to stay 48 hours, and apparently if you sign out AMA insurance won't pay for it. Who knew it runs $10-12k for a basic delivery? Wish I'd known that before coming in - I'd have stayed home. I'm used to being outside most of the day, every day. I'm going absolutely stir crazy stuck in here. I think I've watched more TV in the last 2 days than I have in the last year. I tried hard to get discharged earlier but couldn't talk any doctors into letting me go (policy and common sense do not mix apparently). So hubby and I figured if we were stuck we'd be as comfortable as possible. We shoved the hospital bed out of the way and set up an air mattress. Hubby brought in a hot plate and has been making our meals. We highly amuse the nursing staff.

Here's our expanded family. I never could get hubby to smile for pictures. Hopefully it's not too huge - the attachment feature won't work from my phone.
