Anyone going to be down that way to show rabbits?
I'm shy in real life, so unless you recognize my bunnies you probably wouldn't see me. ;)
It's probably why I spend so much time online.

I'll be stopping to look at all the pretty rabbits and shop around. Picking up a pair of harlequins, and would be happy to purchase another doe if I see one with markings I like.
I'll be bringing two velveteens for sale as well. Richards Rabbitry Baggins. (yeah, he comes with his pedigree.) A nice little buck(under 6 lbs) and an excellent breeder. No health problems whatsoever. Only 14 inch ears, so he no longer qualifies for show. Would definitely make nice kits paired to a longer eared doe.

He was my third attempt at sourcing a buck that would produce healthy babies. I tried REALLY hard and I think he's an excellent rabbit that has a lot to offer a line. Unfortunately, after three different bucks, I had to conclude that it wasn't something carried by any of the bucks. It's my doe who is passing along the harmful genetics. He has a history of making perfectly healthy, non-curly kits with other does. I've seen them, they were nice.

The second v-lop I'm bringing is Mucky's boy. (No pedigree) He's pet quality because he might be carrying the same harmful genetics she is. I wouldn't let him go to just anyone, but if someone from RT who understands everything I've been through with that line wanted him for a pet, I'd be willing to practically give him away. He's 9 weeks, appears to be in good health (no long term promises) and has 12 inch ears. Both parents meet weights, and he might be showable...maybe. If his ears get long enough.
Absolutely not recommended as a future stud buck.

These guys cannot be housed outside or in an unheated rabbitry in my climate.

The first pic is Baggins. I can pose him if anyone wants to see. Or take pics of ANY part of him. ;) The second pic is Mucky's kit.

Pretty bunnies. Just curious though, what harmful genetics is the buck you were talking about carrying?

__________ Fri Feb 06, 2015 12:10 am __________

And what is a v-lop?

A v-lop is a velveteen lop. It's a breed currently in development.
They are seriously good natured little bunnies.
The harmful genetics that the mother seemed to pass on would be:

Her kits have astrex style curls with occasional kit balding (a phase they outgrow)
Some kits had digestive problems, from bloat to failure to thrive.
Other kits had swollen lymph nodes throughout their bodies, combined with a lack of energy which makes me suspect lymphoma, a type of cancer. My best guess is that it is not a recessive condition (carried only by my doe) and that susceptibility is genetic in this case.

The little broken black himself appears healthy, but I could not promise that he wouldn't suddenly develop lymphoma later in life, or remain healthy and still pass the condition on to his offspring as his mother seems to be doing to.

I had to euthanize over 1/2 the total kits she produced due to heath concerns. It's not something I would wish on anyone else. That why he's "pet home only." If someone goes against my wishes and picks him up as a cheap v-lop breeding buck...Well, that's on them. I've been transparent as possible about everything.

I'm really more worried that a bunch of sick kits will be sold or pet homed, just to have the disease catch up later and really disappoint a lot of people.

I'm already worried about the few kits that I sold. They were in good shape upon leaving here...but I haven't heard back from anyone.

Aww poor bunnies... Sounds like it would be good to have any bunnies from her fixed So no accidental beings occur. They are lovely rabbits though. Thanks for the answer.

I won't be going to the show but I have a bunny coming home from it, have fun!

I'm done breeding the doe forever.
Thanks for the idea with neutering. If I can find a vet that is actually experienced with rabbits, that may my next course of action.

I hope you find them a wonderful home Zass!! I still am so drawn to the V Lops but trying to keep myself focused on improving my Mini Lops for now. I still have a tug inside when I see pictures of the Velveteens. I think they are so beautiful and have a very sweet, endearing look about them.

Thanks WhWRabbitry :D
I couldn't say it enough. They can be kinda cute, but it's their personalities that I just love. Each and every one is a little cuddle-bun. That pretty-eyed buck in my first pic is a huge sweetheart.
Almost too affectionate. He's often trying to woo me...
