Evidently Matilda is overfeeding these babies. Every single one of them had a huge, huge distended belly today just like the others who died. For the past few days, I've been bringing the kits in after they're fed in the morning to keep them out of the heat. We had a bad storm last night and things were somewhat cooler this morning so I left them out there. When I brought them in at noon, they were huge.

What do I do besides keep removing them from her? Should I put them back out there tonight? They are grossly huge.

They may have gas... do you have pediatric gas drops you could give them just in case? Have you tried to stimulate them to urinate and defecate?

When our buck Pudge was a kit - a lonely only after some trampling in the colony - we found we could only put him with his mom for a short time, morning and evening. We would let him go to her to nurse and then remove him promptly. I think if we had left him with her full time, he would have exploded.

Yes, it's definitely overfeeding. Guess I'll keep taking them out first thing in the morning until her milk subsides a little and they can handle the milk better.
