My 6 year old Russian Blue neutered male kitty sure has been testing my undying love for him lately. First he started having behavioral issues because of some rearranging in the home and my kiddos being little devils chasing him around all the time. He started marking his territory going as far as marking the side of the couch where I sit. We solved that with some Chamomile essential oil diluted and rubbed in his ears twice a day.

He's a little fat so I decided to buy him some weight maintenance cat food. I get grain free pellets to feed him and UPS delivered the first bag of "diet food" tonight. His cat dish was full of his old cat food but he decided he would tear apart the new bag so he could eat that food instead. Didn't even give me a chance to wean him over Sooooooo, I walked in on the surprise of cat food strung out all over my kitchen and my devil kitty in the middle of the pile half passed out. I should have taken a picture but I was too fuming mad over the mess.

He's always had a fascination with cardboard and paper, he'll "dig" on it for hours on end then eat some of it. The new food is made from paper products instead of the typical plastic coated woven bag, so perhaps that's what prompted the bag destruction. Either way he sure is finding odd ways to express himself lately.

He's always been so laid back...really the easiest kitty I've ever had. Great with the kids, he gets TONS of love and really truly is spoiled. It's times like these I wish he could just talk so we could work out any issues lol.

Oh our animals and the things they put us through

i have a cat who will tear apart the cat food bag as well.

So we put it into containers as soon as we bring it home OR recognize that we'll have a mess of cat food on the floor.

NOW you know, so you have choices as well. :)

My male likes to climb into the open bag, eat his fill then leave. I don't mind that as much as I did when I had shredders. One just liked the feel of ripping paper--shredding posts helped a little, but not much. She also got into the habit of sharpening her claws on occasion on the toilet paper roll. If I left the bathroom door open I'd come home to the WC full of shredded tissue and unraveled paper filling the floor...don't know why I love cats, but I do.
