thank youso to make sure I understand your question
hen 1 is NOT producing and is getting fat?
hen 2 is laying eggs?
if so, just like with rabbits. too much fat creates issues. Rabbits produce less kits. Hens won't lay eggs.
So put hen 1 on a diet and increase her amount of exercise.
1 yearhmmm. pictures? how old are they?
Oh noI had a hen that stopped laying, and got extremly fat. So she got an invitation for dinner.
What a disappointment, turned out that she was actually skinny but had one huge mass made up of dozens of eggs in her (no shells), she somehow produced them but didn't get them out.
So I would check if something about her anatomy feels off.
we gave them pumpkin and they both ate it but hen 1 is NOT laying and is FAT while hen 2 is skinny and layingIt could be because hen 1 is the dominant, therefore getting more food, therefore healthier. If you want hen 2 to lay soon, in order to ensure that she does actually lay, feed her some pumpkin separate from the others. She'll get the nutrients needed to lay, and will not have to compete for that food.
noDo they have access to grit and oyster shell? I like to make both available to my girls.
the fat hen stopped laying one week ago but gained alot of fat this last weekHas the fat one ever laid? When did she stop? Are they the same breed? Does the fat one have a bright red comb or is it paler? Is there any chance she is molting?
ill look into treatment for thatGotcha, she could be egg bound or she could have a problem with her crop. I didn't know a lot about treating an egg bound chicken but I really think that's most likely
It looks like she might be egg bound but after treatment she still has not laid any eggs.Gotcha, she could be egg bound or she could have a problem with her crop. I don't know a lot about treating an egg bound chicken but I really think that's most likely
thank youall I know about egg bound chickens is soaking them in water, and then VERY gently lubricating them where the eggs come out.
