My doe is 31 days now and absolutely no signs of nesting. Is this a bad sign? This will be a 3rd litter. 1st litter she had on the wire, owner didn't know she had taken and didn't put in the nest box. 2nd litter was ok she had them in a solid bottomed cage. Only 2 kits, one was a peanut and the other is doing great. This was in february. This is her first litter with me.

:hmm: Any idea how many days she kindled at last time? How many kits in the first litter?

I am going to email the original owner and ask. I know for sure she is pregnant I can feel the babies moving and she has a nice round stomach. I think she definitely has more than 2 this time. I know with dwarf breeds like her though 2-6 is the normal range.

Don't feel bad, none of my rabbits nested the last time, were two days over and had 11, and 10 kits. Scream was due Thursday, it's Sunday, no nest. Still eating, no kits. I've decided to stop watching rabbits. Either they have kits, or they explode. There is no pattern here. Well actually one did nest, the holland that had 5, and the holland that had all her kits dead.

hmm here is a exerpt from her blog.
" The second litter born this month was born on Feb 18. The proud dad is BL's Petrone, our proven broken tort Jersey Wooly buck. The proud mom is BL's Candy, our Smoke Pearl Jersey Wooly. Candy has had two previous litters but both times I had forgotten to move her to a solid bottomed cage so the babies were born on the wire. This is why it is very important to write down each breeding because you WILL forget. Candy has been doing great being a mommy. She had two health babies and two peanuts. One of the healthy babies is a black, the other healthy baby and the peanuts are broken blacks. We are very excited! The two healthy babies are growing, growing, growing. Hopefully we will have more babies soon. Having these two litters has given me hope that we are out of our baby drought."

I guess I need to worry about kits being born on the wire. :0

I just spread hay all over the cage, and sure enough, I can home to kits spread all over the cage, in the hay. I gathered them up and put them in the box.

Thanks, I will be sure to go ahead and do that! Great now i'm probably not going to sleep tonight. lol

I know how you feel. Day 35 here, lots of lavender and tums given. I think if she does not have kits by tomorrow I might go and get them myself!

Good luck to your doe! I just took some pictures of the little brat. Still no nest building at all. Her cuteness makes up for the fact that she has driven me crazy the last few days.

She is very pretty. Yea, I'd give her some leeway regarding "getting down to business" too. ili

Hoping for a "built" nest and healthy popples soon.

Karen

Thanks. She should have some beautiful chunky babies with my buck. I hope she has them in the nest box...

I cannot number how many times I've seen does litter at 35+ days. Be patient, they'll be here soon enough, and the next thing you know, you'll be weaning them. Time moves that fast.

I'll admit that I got a little achey-hearted the other night while I was weaning the foster litter. I saw things with that doe and her litter that I never dreamed I'd ever see, and some nice bunnies are coming from it.

What a cute doe. Well mine's did not go so well, posted about a little while ago. Hoping to get my kit fix through yours :)

Lindsey, I predict that by Wednesday morning, you'll come out first thing in the morning to a bundle of fur and jumping babies. Just watch.

Patience, my fellow breeder. Patience!!!

What a little poof-ball!

I lined a cage floor with cardboard (and a few inches up the sides) once for a doe that insisted her nest had to be in front of the door. I have in and up swinging doors, so I couldn't put her box there. When I posted about it, someone mentioned that they line the cage with a towel for does who may not use their box.

Are we still on popple watch?
