Hi I acquired some rabbits to eventually supply my lunches but tried to pick some from the very normal looking ones on offer that were a bit different as I like things that are a bit unusual. Ive been trying to get my head around the rabbit colours and will eventually but I'm still getting confused at the moment and would like to some help to work out the colours.

Doe= black colour with brown ticking Buck= "opal" I only took a picture of one of the babies today (18 days old) not sure what colour it is (or the rest to be honest so will have to photograph them all)

I used to breed and exhibit specialist genetic colours in birds so will eventually get my head around it all but at the moment I'm really confused!

The ticked black is a steel, you called it brown ticking, but I think she's probably a silver tipped (chinchilla) steel instead of a gold tipped (chestnut) steel.

The buck is an opal :) and the kit is chinchilla.

Are they flemish giants or flemish/NZ crosses?

Agreed with the others, but the bottom to me looks like a blue chin not opal. I do not see any cream/tan markings around nostril or ears to show its an opal. Plus it looks like if you'd blow into the fur, it'd have definable rings to match a blue chin.

Hi thank you all so very much for your help

Breeds are
(Buck 3/4 British Giant) he is by a Pure British giant champion described by the breeder as "steel grey" from memory
his mother was supposed to be a pure BG x pure NZ white but cant remember the colours

(doe 3/4 NZ) from a different breeder the doe is by a purebred black NZ buck (who looks black) and her mother was a REW that was by a pure BG (didn't ask colour) over a NZ REW

From memory the blue buck has a ring in its fur, not sure though as Ive been focussed on trying to work out the does colour but it keeps popping into my head that his fur had a ring in it just like the other buck (agouti pure BG) that I got put aside as future breeding option.

The adults are cross breeds from breeders that do eat their cross breeds and didn't quieten these rabbits down into pets in-case they ended up eating them, I can pat them in the pen but they are not over keen on me picking them up so will have to go catch them and this time take photographs of their fur.

Once again thanks to everyone for their help its very much appreciated.

do you have any pictures o fthe inside of the opals ears? I can't tell if he's got tan inside them or not. If he dose than hes a clean Opal if the inside of his ears are 'muddy' or don't have tan then he's a steel. But the others are right: Black chinchilla, and Gold tipped Steel.

An opal will have a tawny or cream ring when the fur is blown into, as well as a cream trim to the white belly, and will also have cream color on the tops of the feet. I think I see the cream on the tops of the feet in the pic.

A squirrel (blue chinchilla) will have generally have no cream or tan in any of those places.

I only have my pics of the squirrel doe as a kit. She's gotten so big now. I'll have to get her back out for a photos again.

Hmm on my monitor doesn't look like there is any thing but the blue/gray/white coloring. Maybe its because I can't bring it up or color difference in monitor resolution, dunno. Wouldn't be first time its done that either ugh.

Feet and nostril pictures ?

He has a fawn patch on the neck and up close his fur gives the impression of having fawnish tips

and a pic of the kit colour range, there are 9 all up with a solid black and a chestnut agouti out of the picture
I love the really light coloured one
