I have NZ whites. I want to get a second buck and was thinking of getting a different color.
What would I get if I mixed a NZW with a red, blue or any recognized NZ color? Trying to keep within standard.
Would I also get some NZWs or would they all be some kind of color?

I would think it'd depend on what type of white they are, if blue eyes you'd get vienna marks, if red eyes you'll get a mix of more white and then colored kits. But dont take my word for it since I dont know too much about NZ

You will mostly get unrecognized colors.

Most NZW are Steel under the REW so you will most likely get Steel kits. After Steel, you may get chestnuts, or blacks you may get some reds if the white is from red lines. I would be very surprised if you bred a blue and white and got any blues. Blue is such a new variety, it's unlikely any white (unless specifically from blue lines) will carry blue.

If you want to keep within the standard, only breed white to white. First gen white crosses are usually steels (sometimes chestnuts) which is not recognized

NZW's have only one color for eyes... Red, and Red only.

The 'white' coloration is 'masked' over an underlying color.
Crossing any colored NZ buck will 'un-mask' the white allowing
the underlying color to show itself.. """Maybe""" :x :x

You may well end up with blacks, reds, or 'wild-type' colors.
I doubt you'll have brokens, unless your buck has broken in its background.
As to type, they'll still be the same, just colored differently.
You'll also get a portion of whites in the litter.

Years ago, I purchased a 'wild-type' colored New Zealand buck and crossed it
on six of my white does, and got some of the most beautiful reds I'd ever seen.
They turned out to be excellent mothers as well and stayed with me until a man
looking to buy some breeding stock visited and offered a ''huge'' sum of money
for the whole shootin' match.. :p :p

Three days later, I didn't have a rabbit or cage one... on the place.

Give it a shot.... you'll never know till you try. and Good Luck. ;)

Grumpy.

BTW: I rebuilt my rabbitry and now have over 100 holes that have been
redesigned to slope-fronted cages. They're a lot easier on my arms... (spinal cord injury)
