you can help them make better digging decisions by putting something stable in an area you want them to dig in. They like to dig next to structures. :)
That's interesting! I did not know that. I put a large side-entry, covered bottomless nest box in & they dug out through the bottom LOL Then since it was going to storm, I gave them a couple cat litter containers (like square 5-gallon buckets)

They lined everything up in a row facing the same direction LOL They put a neat layer of dirt in the bottom of the boxes & then slept with their heads inside LOL

I am SO GLAD I did this. They are right outside my front door, so I see them! I don't feel so awful about the cages anymore. This is their winter location, they will move to the shade trees in the summer. (Sounds like quite an undertaking however LOL ... who knows I may just buy more cages, but they're so expensive! We'll see) It's nice to see the rabbits have something to do.

I got the second one done today & filled with dirt. Thank heaven my sister has a backhoe! I can't imagine how long it would take me to fill it with a wheelbarrow.

So, tomorrow Calypso gets a new home! Then I have one left to build - 4x8 but divided into 2 @4x4 with a buck in each side. Although I'm not sure I'm keeping the newest buck so big daddy might get the whole thing to himself for awhile.

Thank you everyone for the comments!
