I am new to rabbits. My oldest daughter (26yrs) old decided to raise giant chinchillas and I thought she had too many rabbits. My two teenage daughters loved the whole rabbit thing too. I just watched and thought they were crazy. Then I attended my first rabbit show, my young teenage daughters needed a ride so I tagged along. I left that show with 5 new rabbits and a serious love for the whole thing. The community, the animals, the colors, everything….. fast forward to today and I have toooooo many rabbits and 3 more on the way. I have a back porch (covered and screened in) 24x16 and it is our rabbit home. We do cages to keep them separated but each rabbit gets time out of the cage everyday to play on the porch. We have tunnels, hides, toys and plenty of running space (hay & rabbit poop everywhere). I love watching them play. I get great joy in cleaning the space up, talking to them and giving lots of pets. You would think the broom would be scary but they love to help me clean (really just get in the way). We have 7 Netherland dwarfs and 5 Rex rabbits at my house. My older daughter has 4 of my Rexes at her house and another 5 giant chinchillas and several Rexes of her own. We intend to breed the giant chinchilla for shows and the Rexes we intend to breed for black & chocolate diluted and tri-colors (we have males & females marked for the two different programs).

For me it was the lilac otter that made me fall in love, I wanted one so bad but couldn’t find one so my daughter said I would need to create one. And down the rabbit hole I went.

The Netherland dwarfs belong to my 14yr old daughter. She fell in love with a little boy at the show and I bought him for her. He is a dark Siamese sable and his himi girlfriend will be coming home soon.

The girls learned about culls at the show and asked to bring home several culls to try and find them good pet homes, so we now have several rabbits that won’t be bred but are cull fails (we tried to rehome but fell in love with them).

I am so excited to be a part of the rabbit world and love the whole experience, especially that I can share this with all 3 of my daughters.

My husband is tolerant of the rabbits, he doesn’t play with them but he also doesn’t mind when I show up with new bunnies.
