This isn't a very good picture but this is day 5. One pinky didn't make it but the other 10 are wiggly and shiny.

I may be a grumpy old truck driver but I still think these are the cutest wee beasties!

Actually, that's the first blue on I"ve had from two black parents. Adam (blue) and Scarlett (red) give me blue and steel in every litter. Usually two blacks give me white and black only, lately my litters have had three colours instead of two. Not that I'm complaining!

They do say variety is the spice of life - that's the fun thing about Harlequins. "What did I get? What did I get?" - every nestbox is like Christmas!

I do have to disagree with you on one thing. Baby goats are the cutest things ever!

I can't argue with you on that as I don't have any goats. However, if I had a big enough property I would definately love to have goats.... and geese.... and pigs... and miniature horses.... I need to win a lottery!

:( Me too! Except no pigs, I don't think. My uncle raised pigs. But goats, chickens, and more rabbits, and a couple of horses, and a huge garden, and...

(Of course, in order to win the lottery, it might help if I played it...)

Well, we're down to nine but the rest look good. Found one in the front of the nestbox cold and stiff when I got home from work. Brought it inside and laid it out on the table for a while which I do just in case. Sure enough, as I was walking through the kitchen a few minutes later I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. I put it in a towel with a warm bottle of water and it started moving and crying so I got out the KMR and mixed up a bowl. When it figured out where the warm liquid was coming from it really latched onto the syringe. Unfortunately, it just up and died in mid feeding a few minutes ago. Kind of makes me feel a little crappy after a couple of hours hand feeding, I thought I might actually save this one.

Here's the nine. The one on the very left is going to be a steel so I have four colours in this litter, a first for me!

Bummer! I'm sorry. It's tough when you work so hard to save one, and you lose it anyway.

they are darling

so frustrating to get so close to saving one - I had that happen on my birthday this fall - nice big kit but mum was clueless ... felt badly for the popple and me

I've found that if they don't make it in the nest, there's not too much I can do for them but I try anyway. This one had milk (KMR) coming out it's nose when it died so I wonder if I drowned it. It sure latched onto the syringe like it wanted to feed. I wonder if it just drank too fast. Died right in my hand with a little sigh. Kind of made me feel like crap for a bit. Well, I'll try my best but in the end I'll take what nature gives me. I'm sure these baby rabbits that don't make it come back and try again with another doe, that always makes me feel better!

Oh my goodness! That is a lot of popples. I'm glad that you had such a great litter Truckinguy, it's always nice to come out and see that you have fat, healthy little popples.

Congrats.

__________ Sun Feb 07, 2010 8:06 am __________

It really is too bad about those two that died, I'm sorry.

Well, we now have eight on day 11. I found one dead in the nestbox yesterday when I came home from work. I figure it got stepped on as Momma jumps in and out of the nestbox like an idiot, very highly active rabbit. Eyes are open on most of them. I caught Momma feeding them yesterday morning and when she hopped out of the nestbox, the blue kit just lay there, it had drank so much it looked like a little fat balloon with four legs and a head sticking out, just lay there on it's back in food coma. I almost laughed out loud!
