Just for fun, of course, they will reveal themselves, but I'm trying to learn to know what I am seeing.

Mama is Flemish mix fawn with brindling: Aa B_ C_ D_ ej_
Sire is Light Grey Flemish Giant: Aa B_ cchdcchd D_ E_ ww (wide band)
(**the second 'a' I added based on the appearance of a solid black kit)

So our most likely results are chestnut (Sandy in FG) and black based chinchilla (Light Grey in FG).
One kit appears self black~ black all over.

The other 6 are definitely agouti (pink in all the right places) but otherwise they are just very dark grey? black?
:?: that would be because only the darkest base of the hairs is present and that would be the same on chestnut or chin?

Any way to tell? What do you think (and why)?
Thanks!!

I think you have a great momma doe, just look at those bellies!!!! :hooray:
I am not good at colors but when I get a light chin litter they usually look light black as newborns. But then so does the gold tipped steel..

at this age you just can't tell for sure.

You could have some chin...but you could also have some very light chestnut.

So I just have to be patient?!
Noooo! LOL

Clover is an amazing mom.
She is such a blessing for us newbies... Even with her first litter she did everything perfectly so we could just watch and learn :)

__________ Sun Jun 07, 2015 1:34 pm __________

New pics today :)

Definite gold sheen on heads (chestnut?).

There are a few feet with brindling...

So would this mean that sire must be Ee in order for the 'ej' from dam to affect colouring? The kits with brindle would be eje ?
Or can 'ej' cause the brindling to modify an Eej?

Thanks!

It's normal for chestnut or chinchilla rabbits to have lighter markings on their feet.
It's only the dark markings that can show up as brindling on an A_ Eej coat.

~ at 7 days they are 6 chestnuts (Sandy) and one black.
3 of the chestnuts have classic agouti markings, very clean.
3 of the chestnuts have muddy brindled bellies so I assume they are Eej (?)

The black is just going to be too small.
I am thinking my only keeper will be the biggest/ best growing chestnut WITHOUT brindling (want to work on actual Flemish colours aside from my tiger bunnies!), hopefully a doe that could go back to the sire.
If that doesn't fly, I think I'll put the same pair together again, because the dam is awesome and try for a black or good sandy again.
