He is adorable! Where exactly are you in Ohio, Jessica? I'm in Ohio too and have Netherlands and Hollands. I agree...$200 or more is way too much! I have a chestnut doe with exceptional ears that I could breed if you wouldn't mind waiting a bit on a baby?

I live in Tiffin, 90 miles north of Columbus.

Pumpkin Pie was born July 19th, so he is a little over 2 months.

The little booger ate my calender last night!

I'm a bit south of you then Jessica...I'm near Dayton. I also know a great breeder in Lima. She has some of the best Dwarfs I've ever seen! And her prices are very reasonable. I got my chestnut doe from her for $40 or $50 with 4 generation pedigree and 4 legs! Let me know if you want her info. :)

that would be great!

It just makes sense, since bunnies lose heat thru their ears, for them to get a little longer when it is hot. Like I said, I'm not quoting any professional study, just going off of 20 years of bunny raising experience.
i have heard this many many times from polish breeders. i think there is definitely something to it.

Let us know if you end up getting anything from her, JessicaR. She has oranges too...if I'm not mistaken she said that they tend to have longer ears and she's working on that. She's super nice and very knowledgeable. I don't think she'll disappoint you!

I have heard orangeshave longer ears and that is why they use chesnuts to shorten the ear length. So... I guess I will have to get 2 does  1 orange and 1 chestnut! Of course my son likes the black himis so maybe we should get a couple more in the future :p Somebody stop the insanity I am being taken over by dwarfs

Cute baby!

You will get some smut from Chestnuts, but you will also get better colored chestnuts. And at least dwarfs are small, it takes 3 to make up one regular size rabbit. So really each one only counts as 1/3 of a rabbit. So you can have extra..

I think I like you, Oceanrose. :) You will make a fine addition to the Enablers here, and take a bit of pressure off of the rest of us, so we can finally take a little break.

well with that thinking, I also have flemish giants so this little guy is about 1/10 of a rabbit

This is the a rabbit we got from the pound. She is a sweet thing but daughter says she is too big for a Netherland Dwarf. what do you all think? Please be honest she is a pet but I am curious. 0919021531.jpg

Oh if you have Flemish these don't even count! I mean, come on! The dwarfs are like baby flemish. No way they could count.

You will have to have 2 separate lines though if you're dealing with himis. You can't cross those to the orange or chestnut. But you could add blacks, blues, or shadeds to breed to the himis hehehehe.

__________ Wed Sep 26, 2012 7:44 pm __________

Enabling, or justifying is a hidden talent of mine...

I kind of figured the himis would have to be seperate. I am just thinking of ways to justify my need for more small bunnies

The good news, the breeder that Mandy gave me info for has an orange doe due soon and has a nice SR. chestnut doe she might be willing to sell. Now the biggest problem is finding the time to pick her up. Between my kids soccer and baseball games and my husband has to help out at the fire departments fundraiser, this weekend is definitly out. Oh plus I have to break the news to hubby that we are getting another rabbit!

Just add the cage, he'll never notice.
"What? Oh, that? Been there for ages, you need to pay more attention hon"

whats funny is that Pumpkin was in the house beside his computer for 3 days before he noticed

When I brought home the first Angoras, and my BF was asking WHAT I was doing, I said, 'well you know the phrase breed like rabbits...' Of course he doesn't know I'm getting 3 more, I did say I was going to talk to another breeder though. My question, is do I hang cages BEFORE I leave or act like it was a total surprise..

I'd hang the cages- "Just clutter reduction, dear!"- so you can get them into their new homes quickly to minimize stress.
