I noticed Mag acting funny a bit ago when I went to take my dog out. She normally tries to stay as far away from me as possible, but tonight she was at the front of her cage following my every move. So I gave her a handful of hay to calm her down and she started stuffing her face with it instead and getting frantic about where to put it.
Isn't this a bit early?
I wasn't totally sure about her when I tried palpating, I'm a newb at it, but in the past few days she's upped her feed intake. Could it just be a falsey?
We just had a bear swing by tonight, could it have startled her to abort and she just feels a need to nest?
Should I just go ahead and give her stuff to nest with so she can just get it out of her system? :?

Nyctra,
I would give her a Nestbox and plenty of hay.
You may have made a mistake in your breed date.
It is also quite possible that due to excessive heat
that the kits are going to arrive a bit earlier than expected.
Better to err on the side of "preparedness" than to not be prepared.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

I've had does make nest up to a week early to not at all. It seems there is no rhyme or reason to the nest building, and I have found no consistency across does. Especially in this heat. No one has built a nest here since April, except two hollands, and one was not pregnant and the other died kindling.

I have a doe who is not due until the 20th. She started carrying the hay that I gave here to eat yesterday. I gave her a nest box. I always do when they start carrying it. Some of my does seem to be VERY early nesters so I just give then the box and hay and let them go at it.

I believe that with false pregnancies they begin nesting at day 17.

I thought that I could track my doe's nesting behavior and they would settle into a routine after the first couple of litters- but nope! They like to switch things up to keep things interesting... wouldn't want the human that brings all the tasty food to get bored, I guess. :)

I give mine their nests when I see early hay gathering, otherwise I wait until day 28.

Hope to see popple pics in a few days!
