I know there is a thread about this somewhere, but I can't find it.

I'm going to need 3 more nestboxes (which my autocorrect INSISTS should be 'nematodes' ). Unfortunately, they cost $20 each at TSC. I feel this is outrageous.

What are some cheaper options?

These are mini lop does, so not sure about size.

My husband builds me nestboxes from whatever scraps we have laying around.

For my climate, and with as much winter breeding as I plan on doing... I like them heavy, wooden, solid bottomed , and at least 4 inches deep at the shallowest.

And I like to replace them frequently, because, yes, they do get soiled.

You keep your buns indoors so you can use just about anything..I have seen people use beer boxes and plastic totes...we build ours too. But if the TSC ones are metal sanitation would be a snap just hose them off and put in the dishwasher.. :)

A lot of people use plastic totes. As a matter of fact, I used one for a Beveren doe I had. You can see it here:

If you use a lightweight box it is a good idea to attach it to the cage wire with zipties to prevent it from being tipped over.

I like the plastic tote idea!!
What size tote is it and have you ever had anyone (kits or momma) get cut on the sharp looking edges? Maybe it could be sanded down with a little sandpaper?

Following... I used a clear plastic tote for the last (first) FG litter but they outgrew in about a week LOL so we built in a shelter in the nursery hutch nd when I moved them into it, I just put the nest on the wire (temps hard warmed up and big litter).
I honestly think I'll do the same for the FG litter coming.

For my rex cross litter coming I think I am going to build with free pine boards from a local company that lets you take their scrap for kindling.
Shape may be a little wonky, but it will be basically free and burn it when soild LOL

I'd love to a see a pattern or pics of wooden ones.
How do you do your Zass?
