My friends' 5 buns are 2 weeks old and all of their eyes are glued shut with gunk. I have never dealt with nestbox eye, except for a kit or 2, but not a whole litter...
Do I tell her to just use a warm dampened cloth on the eyes? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Chamomile tea is good for eye irritations, and I have used it on kitten's eyes when they are glued shut. She could steep some tea and clean their eyes with that while it is still warm. If she hasn't cleaned out the nest she should do that as well.

Be sure to mention not to rub the eyelids... they will end up very sore and swollen. Holdign the teabag or a cotton puff soaked in tea against the closed eye will soften the gunk and then the eyelids can be gently pulled open. Some antibiotic eye ointment may help head off further problems.

Black tea can be used if chamomile is not available.

Cleaning out the nest at Day 9, just before the eyes should be beginning to open can reduce the chances of nestbox eye.

I also use an an antibiotic.

I use polysporin eye and ear drops, the same one I use for the children. It seems to work and it doesn't seem to hurt them.
