Has anyone ever seen the Nelsen's "Creamello" Dutch at Nationals? I have only seen them on the Internet, but every time I come across them, I am intrigued with not only their looks but the history (I love to hear when mutations pop up).

Has anyone ever owned any rabbits from Nelsen's line?

Here is the site with pics since I know we love photos here :D

Have heard of that before, but they're sure cute. Any if them!

I did see a fawn and white Dutch on CL a few months ago, but nothing like the creamello.

__________ Mon Mar 17, 2014 6:00 pm __________

Haven't, not have, sorry, stupid iPhone....

Wow, those are really pretty! How odd that they are usually (or did they say always?) perfectly marked. :?

I used to have Dutch Harlequin; lovely variety, but I reeeally like the look of the Creamello :p

But hmmm MSD you have a point. Quite a line of rabbits if they...always... have perfect markings. But since most Dutch breeders are very open about culling (many, completely normal-for-the-breed) mismarks, I can't imagine why they'd need to claim otherwise. Huh! :headscratch:

I think I may just have to keep looking for them and SEE FOR MYSELF, DON'T YOU AGREE???

Hi Everyone. I am a new member to the site. This is a subject that interests me. I have two 7 month old Harlequin Doe's. I have a buck from another rabbitry reserved. But the problem is it is a buck from a litter not yet born. I would like to breed my Harlequins in another 2 months. I am finding it very hard to locate a breeder within a reasonable distance from me. I was looking into dutch rabbits since I had read that Harlequins are through to have come from a cross between a wild rabbit and a dutch rabbit. So I decided to try to find breeder using both dutch and Harlequin breeds in a search engine. I found the same link you posted. I fell In love with the Harlequin dutch coloring on the page. There is several breeders throughout the US. They are trying to get the harlequin coloring as an accepted color for the dutch breed. Since I haven't been able to find a Harlequin male of breeding age I also have been keeping an eye out to try to find a dutch male.. but so far no luck :( . I know you were talking about the creamello. But i thought that maybe what's been on my mind might be relevant to the discussion since they are both unrecognized varieties.

Welcome, CDiana!

I hope you find a nice buck of either breed for your Does.

Dutch Harlequins are a gorgeous project, and I really enjoyed the ones that I had.

They came out with very clean markings and were very typey. If you are in or near WI I can recommend a breeder to you for this variety.

If you have no plans for immediate showing, there is nothing wrong with pairing the breeds you mentioned. You could work towards the Dutch Harlie standard, or just breed cute mutts for your own purposes. But whichever you decide, be sure to share pictures here =D

The website said that the two rabbits in question, when bred to each other, nearly always throw perfectly marked kits. So there's room for other markings. :)

The "usual" black/sable(?) Dutch look sort of smallish to me (having only my one 12-pounder to compare them to), but some of the different colors on the linked website....well...let's just say that it's probably a Good Thing that our back yard is useless as a yard due to the massive redwood tree that lives there. Because...gold Dutch, chinchilla Dutch, agouti Dutch, and of course the Creamellos are just to die for! And of course my Angora has never happened yet, either....

Oh, God.... my dog, the cats, Parsley, and (oh, yeah) DH would probably all be completely ticked off if I made it happen IN THE HOUSE! gotta dump some possessions to make space.

Well, I needed to declutter anyway, and even if the rabbits don't happen now, they absolutely CANNOT happen with all the...ah..."stuff" ;) in the way.

I am originally from Wisconsin. My parents still live there. I live in Colorado Currently, but I am moving to North Dakota the third week in May. That weekend my eldest niece with be graduating high school in North Dakota. So my parents will be coming to north Dakota for the graduation. She said that if I find a buck in Wisconsin that she will go pick him up and bring him to me when they come. Unfortunately because of the harsh winter I have been unable to find breeding age Harlequin bucks for sale in Wisconsin. I would gladly accept a breeder recommendation for a Harlequin dutch. Thank you!! :)
