Berwick kindled this morning (her first litter), out of the nest box but we had covered the whole floor of her cage with hay. 6 kits, cool when we found them but all lively after being put under a heat lamp for a bit. Cold here, snowing again this morning and we plan to keep this litter inside, taking the nest box out just for feedings twice a day. Dood advised (in the other thread I'd started about bringing the nest box inside) to leave them out until they've been fed. But a couple hours after we put them out, they're feeling not very warm, so we brought them in again. Should we just keep warming them and taking them back until she feeds them? How obvious is it when a rabbit has milk? I'm used to goats where it's very obvious. I don't know which is more important--making sure they stay warm or leaving them alone with her long enough so she feeds them.
There's some fur that she we gathered and put in the box but she didn't pull a lot and when we tried to reach under her and pull some to add this afternoon she growled and didn't like it.
Any advice appreciated. I'm not nervous--not very, not me ;) Perhaps I lack confidence after losing our first litter last month. :(

Keeping them warm is more important right now. Her milk may not even come in today.

I do prefer to see full tummies before I pull a nestbox, but in some cases it's too risky.

It's likely that if you keep the kits inside until after it gets dark, then take them out to her, she might jump right in and feed them. If she doesn't, take them back inside and bring them to her in the morning. I know that kits can go at least a day without their first feeding (and once they are fed, the milk can sustain them for a whole day), but they can't stand to get chilled.
