my mini lop litter

Ok, the litter of 4 I have are now about a week and a half old, 9 or 10 days.
One is all black, two are broken black, one is broken chestnut.
The solid black one, at this point, looks to be a self black, but I can't quite tell yet.
The mother is gold tipped black steel, father was either broken opal or broken blue steel.
With the dam and sire both being agouti, chances are the solid black is actually black steel, correct?
Doesn't one parent have to be a self in order to get a self kit?

I don't believe that's true. I have a solid black from two agouti parents, but in my understanding, steel is dominant to solid, so if one parent is steel, I think the black kit has to be steel. I could be wrong

If both agouti parents carry self then there is a 25% chance of getting self kits

Well, I would have to get out their papers to see if they carry self or not, but, 1 out of 4 does equal 25% <br /><br /> __________ Thu Mar 26, 2015 2:33 pm __________ <br /><br /> Ok, just did another inspection, (one is opening his eyes), the solid black is 100% not a self black, I can see some gold ticking coming in.
Of the three brokens, one is broken chestnut agouti, one is broken black steel, one is broken black. The broken black, the black itself looks a lot darker than the other broken black and I can't see any ticking at all.
So, is that called broken black or broken self black?

Broken black and broken self black are the same colour :shrug:

Most people don't say "self black" when describing black kits but since steel is a factor you could have steel agouti black that look black but are not SELF black
