My doe delivered kits Monday, and tonight is suddenly very noisily breathing/sneezing. Grumbling/whistling sounds almost constant. She hasn't been exposed to any irritants or anything new, as far as I know. Should I move her to a warmer area of the house, give her time? Does this mean a trip to the vets for everyone? Worried :(

I would quarantine her and her babies ASAP, if you have other rabbits, and keep an eye on her. Do you see any white snot?

Stress can wreaks havoc on a rabbit's immune system. So try not to do much that might stress her out. I wouldn't move her if she's not in danger of infecting other rabbits, especially to a warmer location. From my experiences, cool dry air actually seems easier on their respiratory tracts than warmer moister air.

But you do want to make sure they are out of any direct cold drafts.

Mom is quarantined. What signs of illness can I look for in the kits?

-- Thu Feb 12, 2015 9:37 pm --

No snot
