Normally, I'm chill.

I'm in daily pain. I have a hip condition. Still trying to figure out EXACTLY what it is. Had an MRI on Thursday.

Anyway, it's been a sucky couple of weeks. Hip pain getting worse, can't sleep. Then a couple weeks ago I yawned, and had the worst cracking popping feeling/sound in my life. PAIN PAIN PAIN. I've been trying to ignore it but it's just getting worse, hard to open my mouth.

And today? Today we were driving from our property up the volcano back down to our property where we live and I got this HORRIBLE pain. Like hit your funny bone kinda of pain from my neck down to the tips of my fingers.

Finally, I broke down. I cried and took a pain pill with some wine. I try to never take them, but I couldn't deal anymore today.

I. COULD. NOT. HANDLE. ANYMORE.

I'm 35. I'm sick and tired of weird things that can't be diagnosed. Brain swelling (obvious on MRI but no clue from WHAT). Hip pain, don't know why it hurts so badly. Jaw pain. And now this horrid arm/shoulder/neck pain today.

This is becoming so much to handle. I hope there is some sort of relief in my future.

Oh, Dayna, I'm so very sorry that you are in so much pain. (((HUGS))) I hope they can get to the cause of the trouble soon. In the meantime, unless there is a medical reason that you should not use painkillers, I think you need to relax your rule and use them. Warm healing thoughts headed your way.

I'm sorry you're in so much pain.

The jaw thing sounds like TMJD (Temporemandibular joint disorder).

I had it about 17 years ago. I was in constant pain in my face and couldn't bite, chew or open my mouth, sometimes I could open my mouth but then couldn't close it again. The dentist made me a mouth guard that went over my teeth. It took about six months of wearing that contraption, which I hated every second of, but eventually it worked and I've been pain free ever since.

The arm/neck pain is most likely something to do with your jaw.

Pain killers and muscle relaxants are your friend but try and omit the wine. If you can get the pain down to a manageable level try walking on level ground but avoid standing still (no standing at the kitchen sink) and bending.

I hope you get a diagnosis and some treatment soon.

TMJ can also be managed with oh... ultrasound therapy? Where they run sound waves through your jaw or something like that.... (Can't recall the exact terminology) my Mom-in-law had it done and it helped heaps.

Dayna I'm so sorry to hear you are having so much pain. I have trouble like that too. Bless your heart, I hope the doctors can find the answers you need. [[HUGS]] :(

That sounds so painful :( Do take the painkillers if it is getting that severe. Hopefully others have had some similar experiences here and might be able to share some thoughts on what it could be so maybe you can get some answers. Very, very unusal. Please feel better soon!

Thank you all. The wine and painkiller at least gave me some relief to be able to sleep.

I'm just so frustrated!

Part of the trouble with painkillers with me is that they make me not care as much about the fact that I'm in pain, and then I do things I wouldn't normally do when in pain, which in turns makes the pain worse later! lol Like squatting. For some reason when I have the painkillers it over rides my good sense to protect my body rather than abuse it. I think (in the painkiller moment) oh I feel FINE! Lets get that weeding done in the garden!!!! Then I really regret it later.

I did have hip surgery a little over a year ago, and my hip felt better for a while, but now it's worse than it was before the surgery. :( I expect to hear back from my surgeon regarding my newest MRI early this week. I hope. Sometimes things take 10x longer in Hawaii.

Maybe you should get through the absolutely essential work (like caring for the animals) and then promise yourself no more work that day... and then take the pain killers.

I had a minor bout of TMJ many years ago. Muscle relaxers did help. I seem to remember that heat helped as well, but you might want to double check that heat rather than cold is appropriate.

I understand about the hip pain. I had several months earlier this year where just walking around was agony. Just plain old osteo-arthritis, but painful. Fortunately I found a Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM product that was a big help. It has reduced the pain by about 75%.

Hope you find solutions that work for you.

My MRI was to look for Avascular Necrosis (possibly from my hip surgery since they took my hip out of the socket). I sure hope it's not that, but at least that's an answer.

On my xrays my hips looked BEAUTIFUL. No arthritis, good alignment, etc.

And yes, I have muscle relaxers (flexirel), benzos, celebrex, valium, you name it! None of them seem to do much other than mask. But good point on doing all the hard stuff and then taking a pill and taking it easy.

I'm sorry you're going through that Dayna. I hope it gets better before too long.

My wife is also dealing with pain that the doctors can't seem to do much about. She gets powerful pain pills for it, but like you said, they just mask the symptoms.

Perhaps there are some exercises that might help, but I don't know what they would be. Google might help you there. In any case, I hope you find something to help.

I have TMJ and hypermobility. Thankfully, my pain has rarely been severe, but it is pretty much ever-present.

I, too, got the guard to go over my teeth, as I was having having bad headaches with the TMJ as a teen. One day, I yawned and dislocated my jaw. You may have done that a couple of weeks ago. The pain was horrible. My mom realized what I may have done, and told me to move my jaw around -- side to side, front, back, out and around in circles, whatever. It was excruciating, but I did, and I felt my bones sliding on one another until suddenly it went back into place. It was immediate relief.

At this point, if that is what happened, your muscles have probably tightened up really badly around the dislocation. I'd take some flexeril to help things relax, and then give it a go. After all, it probably can't get much worse, and it just might get better. You might have to take a few subsequent doses of flexeril to keep the muscles relaxed for a while, while they settle back into position. The stuff knocks my mom out... I don't know what it does to you.

Ivory's right... the arm and neck pain is quite likely linked to what happened to your jaw.

I hope everything straightens out soon!

I'm sure you already know, but be very careful with the meds. But take them if you need them.

I am generally the nicest person on the phone. I am patient, I am kind, I am understanding.

I got an email update from my docs office that my file was updated. Hmmmm. I called and said:

Me: Is the results of my MRI in?
Her: I'm sorry but you have to speak to the doc to get those results, when is your appointment.
Me: Uh... They didn't tell me I had to make an appointment, they said they'd call.
Her: Who said they'd call?
Me: YOUR OFFICE!
Her: Oh no, sorry but you have to have an appointment.
Me: Okaaaay. Can I make an appointment?
Her: Our first appointment is at the end of next month on such and such date.
Me: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Her: No, I'm sorry that's our first available appointment.
Me: I'll take it. Sigh. I'll call radiology and get a copy of the report.
Her: No, you can't do that. You can't get a copy of the report until the doctor talks to you.
Me: Uh..... (speechless here) Okay see you on the appointment.

CLICK.

Me: ring ring
Them: Radiology file department, how can I help you?
Me: I would like a copy of my MRI and MRI report.
Them: Of course! Are you seeing your doctor we can send it over for you!
Me: Well, here's the thing, not until the end of next month and I'd like a copy just for myself.
Them: Well of course! Happy to help. When would you like to pick it up?
Me: How about tomorrow morning?
Them: Sounds great, we'll see you tomorrow!
Me: Thank you so much!
Them: you are so welcome, see you tomorrow.

CLICK

Yeaaahhhh Don't even TRY to tell me I can't have a copy of MY OWN RECORDS. (insert not nice curse word here)

Yeah I got that when I was injured on the job. The "workman's comp" people decided that I had to wait 2 months to get that report, even though I couldn't walk on that leg.....

Glad you get to have your report. I also hope that you can find out what is causing all your pain. Keeping you in my thoughts.
