Cabrillo, my Mini Rex buck, is about 5 months old. This afternoon, I had everyone out in the ground cages. He sneezed & had some slight discharge. It was not quite medium viscosity & more clear than opaque. I watched him for about another 30 minutes, & he didn't do it again. He's behaving normally with no changes in his eating or drinking.

I'm not sure if he's sick, getting sick, or having an allergic reaction. I do know that when I put alfalfa hay into his cage, the dust seems to make him sneeze (I can relate). I've never had a sick rabbit before although I've nursed plenty of other critters.

Should I isolate him now, or just keep watching him? He's in end unit of a triple run cage next to a Mini Rex doe about the same age. Each rabbit has their own water crock & dish, so there's no sharing of anything.

I'm probably being overly concerned, but I want to protect not only Cabrillo but the rest of the herd.

I would go ahead and isolate him, at least just for a few days' observation, while you figure out whether he just had something in his nose.

Some members have had pretty horrific experiences with illnesses running through their herds, so you are not overreacting.

Thanks, Miss M. I've been reading some of the horror stories. Yikes!

Hubby spent most of the afternoon scrubbing down the parrot cages. He was within 10 feet of Cabrillo and said he never did hear another sneeze. I also checked Cabrillo's paws (he's a Californian) and no sign of boogies on them.

I'm hoping this was just an isolated incident, but I have a cage ready just in case.

Fingers crossed.
