Mini Lop help - COLORS

i am new to mini lips and need some help picking a buck color for my does.
they are all broken so I know I need a solid buck but will agouti work with any broken? This doe and another are gray/ silver & my other is orange / brown /black
I can't get there pics to load.

I am a wee confused. Why does one use a solid color with a
broken color ? Is 2 brokens mated a bad thing ?

I have 2 broken color does, mini lops. One sable lop that was
sold to me as holland lop. My mini lop male Barney is broken
white with black. I have bred the sable doe to the broken male.
And I plan on using the broken buck on the 2 broken does.

I also have mini rex in solid black, broken white/black, and red.
My male is broken white with black. My plan is to use him on
all the does no matter the color.

when you breed broken to broken you'll get some solids, some broken and some broken broken (charlies).

Charlies ... depending on your experience are either a good thing or well.. NOT.

Some folks like charlies as it means when they breed a charlie to a solid they will get 100% broken. And others, for whatever reason, have no gut issues with their charlies at all.

My experience is I try to avoid charlies as I find they often have gut issues. 90% of them die or are culled dead before they reach 8 weeks of age. The one loss a pet sale last year was a charlie who made it to 12 weeks, moved to a new home, was eating drinking acting fine for 24 hours and then up and died. From what I understand... with mini lops colour isn't very important.
But a chestnut buck to this girlie pictured will get you chestnut and chinchilla.
As to the other, I can't picture her so really can't help you out on that.

It is best to breed self to self and agouti to agouti.

Since the doe in the picture is chinchilla coloured which is agouti based and it sounds like your other doe is chestnut which is also agouti based then I would a actually recommend an agouti buck.

Only a few colours are recognized in agouti - chestnut, chocolàte, opal, lynx, chinchilla, squirrel, frosty, orange, gold and silver tipped steel - so the chocolate, dilute and non extension genes are all good but stay away from shadeds (seals, siamese sables and sable points.) I would also avoid REW or Himilayans (not sure if this colour is in Mini Lops yet) as you never know what is hiding under their white fur.

Breeding your chestnut to self would be alright but if bred to your chinchilla you may get self chins which are not showable if they also get a grey blue eye colour

Will you please define agouti ?

I have 1 mini rex doe that I think might be a charlie. She was born
end of June last year. Has not been bred yet. Only male I have to
breed her with is the broken one who also is her Dad. So is this a
bad thing ? I am not interested in showing. I want the offspring to
be sold as pets. I only have the 1 mini rex male. 5 of the does I have
here are related to him.

Agouti is a colour and ring pattern modifying gene found on the A-locus in most mammals. In rabbits it creates a ring pattern where the fur shaft is usually dark at the bases then has a band of light and then dark again on the tips (see picture)

It is often described as "wild-type" and it is hard to describe other than to say it is not self or tan

I recommend you google images of the colours I mentioned that come in the agouti variety.

Don't worry about color, since just about anything goes! Type alone is 80 points with the breed, so you really got to nail that down first.
