I'm new to breeding and color genetics etc, so please bear with me. Honestly, until my daughter took an interest in 4H and rabbit shows and such, my rabbit knowledge as far as breeding was to breed big bucks to big does for big meat. Mini lops are a whole new world.
I am curious, if I bred the two following rabbits, what their potential offspring might look like.

Buck is chestnut agouti, his sire was chestnut agouti and his dam was as well

The doe is black, gold tipped. Her sire was chestnut agouti her dam was black.

Just by that info, there is a strong possibility that the kits from that buck and doe would mostly be chestnut agouti, correct?

Also, this shows my ignorance, what does agouti mean? Is that just a variation of the color? I may be a bit color blind or whatnot, but to me the buck looks like he has almost a hint of olive green to his overall color, my wife says I'm nuts and he isn't green, lol.

Statistically you should get 50% gold tipped steel and 50% chestnut, you could get other colours, such as self black, if the buck carries this gene.

Technically agouti is a pattern modifying gene that creates different coloured bands along the hair/fur shaft and gives the fur a "ring pattern". Black agouti are called "chestnut", blue agouti are called "opals", lilac agouti are called "Lynx" and chocolate agouti are called "chocolate agouti" :D

If a rabbit is not agouti it is a "self" and the fur is the same colour the whole length (unless other genes are modifying it ) and instead of saying "self black" most people just say it's a black, or blue or lilac or chocolate rabbit.

Hope this helps

Ok, great. Thank you for clearing that up.
Gold tipped steel....steel is a somewhat blueish silver color, right?
If that's the case, the gold tipped steel would look kinda....off wouldn't it?

Ah, ok. See, I told you I don't know squat about this type of thing, lol.
Thanks for the added info.
