So as I was checking out craigslist today, looking mostly for cages or hutches I came accross someone selling buns and cages, in their ad they have a dutch harlequin buck for $30. When I inquired to his age they told me 1, and he was proven. I doubt he has a ped. But as none of my does do either that is no issue. I am attempting to get a high, tri colored and have been looking, so I'm quite excited about him. But I am somewhat unsure. 4 out of 5 of my girls are Vienna. And I love the markings my kits have, and they draw a lot of attention and sell well, so my question is, will his ditch marking genes screw with the Vienna, or just add to it? My goal is for Harley and tri colored rabbit, with the possibility of new in the future. Mine are small or medium sized rabbits, and I would like them a little bigger, as I want some for food as well, and he looks like a good size buck.
I have two other choicesces for a herd buck, a blue Vienna or a Harley with no white, but he is slightly on the small side. But they would only be $10. However they are from the same line as my gals, and I would like an outside buck. And if I were to decide I wanted a dutch female for purebred kits, is there a downside to his color being a Harley and not a black and white (because I thought that was the only color they come in?)
Sorry if that is a lot to read and seems like rambling, I am simply trying to look at this from all sides, not the just money or the breed, ect.
Ps. I do want to point out that because I am breeding for pets, his temper will have a lot to do with my deciding when I go see him tomarrow, if he's nasty then I will not even consider him. Nor if he seems unhealthy...
