That was the date I won my first-ever open show Best of Breed, with a Californian doe at the Arkansas Federation of Domestic Rabbit Breeders show in Jacksonville, AR.

Perhaps it was a case of deja vu all over again or just picking an appropriate date to celebrate such a momentus occasion in such a way, but yesterday in Carthage, MO, I won BOB and BOS Satin in Show B, a full 33 years after the first one.

:hooray: Congrats! I think I saw your win. It was your 6/8 white doe wasn't it? There were more than 50 entered, so you should be very proud. Maybe it was because you've continued to produce great rabbits over the years??

Congratulations !!!!

( so have things changed in 33 years ?? lol)

Yeah, you could say it's changed quite a bit.

Back then, we had local active clubs here in AR. Today, we have none.

Back then, Satins were a very active & viable breed across the entire south. Today, it's rare when they are shown at most local shows throughout the same region.

That was me. I also was the guy who had the audacity to tote 2 ribeyes up there for the big cookout afterward. Carthage is normally a good time, and yesterday did not disappoint. It had nothing to do with the winning or losing. A breeder does enough of both of those along the way. It has everything to do with the exhibitors pitching in and helping whenever and wherever they can. That's the way the SW Mo Hare Raisers roll!!!

I don't know about the "over the years" part, though. I only returned to the showrooms about 15 months ago. I got out of it for 25 years while I was in the USAF. I got back into it when I was big enough to admit that I just missed it so much.

Good for you!!!! That is wonderful :)

Thanks X 2.

And FWIW, there was a Golden Palomino which nearly won BIS in show B. The young woman who was showing it was nervous as I've ever seen anyone get. While the judge was looking over all the BOB's, I told her it was the best Pal I'd seen in a very long time. It wound up taking best reserve. VERY sharp rabbit.

Yes !! Those girls had BOB at Convention in Indy. Then the doe that went RIS yesterday... had gone BOB at the Palomino National Show in Reno a few weeks ago. She must be something to see !!! I am so pleased for those girls...they are Very nice people !!

I raised a few Palominos back in the day. I preferred Lynx, but had goldens also.

They're not as common nowadays, and it's a sort of "out of the blue" experience when you see one which is really solid. That was one fantastic palomino (even if it was a golden! LOL!!!). Winning with an uncommon breed at that level is an accomplishment. It's so hard to improve your breeding stock, and it's even more difficult to find the right judge on the right day who will take a rabbit seriously when its breed-level competition isn't strong (number of rabbits + number of exhibitors). Most judges are very reluctant to go with a rabbit from a struggling breed.

Yes, Mena. I was the one standing at the end of the table during show B with Giant chins and English lops!

Turns out, there were several breeders from Arkansas present at the show Saturday. I wish there was some way we could all get together and start up a club. This state has had its fair share of bad ones as of late, and could use a good one. It would take a lot of work in the beginning, but the end game would be that some of us wouldn't have to travel so darn far to shows every time out.

Oh my, just found this post! The Pal is my girl P&K's Fault Line. Thank you all for your kind words about us! What made it so special is that Fault is one of our homegrown babies and that her sire was BIS the year before at Elm Springs show A. :)
And congratulations on your wins SatinsRule :D
