Vanodine, Iodophor, PVP, Betadine, Providine, Iodine... It goes on and on. I am normally pretty careful when substituting products, there are additives to be concerned about. I looked up Iodophor on Amazon and it appears as if Iodophor is the name for a sanitizing product used for making beers, should be suitable for consumption as well I guess. I am just concerned about my rabbits ingesting it. Sorry to be so OCD.
It CAN be confusing...let me try to help clear it up for you. These are the three common forms of Iodine solution you will see....
Vanodine: a disinfectant made by EvansVanodine.uk, contains a blend of Iodine, Sulphuric & Phosphoric Acids & Nonionic Surfactant. It contains 1.75% of iodine in solution.http://www.evansvanodine.co.uk/images/documents/info/v18.pdf
Betadine: name brand for a range povidone-iodine (PVPI) topical antiseptics used by different manufacturers depending on the country involved. This is a lower dilution than just PVPI alone. Normally sold as a 1% solution.
Povidone-Iodine (PVPI): is a stable chemical complex of polyvinylpyrrolidone (povidone, PVP) and elemental iodine. This is the most concentrated form, contains 9-12% iodine. This is used in most iodine based washes, solutions and scrubs. You as a consumer would not likely be buying just this.
