Harlequin and magpie is very confusing to me, but the idea of magpie mini rex is very appealing.

Harlequin mini Rex are pretty easy to come by in my area(a lot easier than a simple blue self, much to my chagrin) and I want to say that I read something about breeding them to a chinchilla?

I actually passed up a chinchilla mini Rex buck a couple weeks back(since my plan was different) and he is the first I've seen in my area.

How do I get magpie babies from a harlequin doe? Would breeding to a chinchilla work, are there other options?

We breed our Jap. Harlequin Mini Lop doe to a Tri Color and get Tri color, Magpies, and Jap Harlequin in the litters. It's a fun variety of colors.

The odds are pretty slim that breeding a harlequin to a chinchilla will produce magpies - you'll likely get castors and harlequinized castors

BUT

Breed that harlequin castor daughter or son back to their chinchilla parent and you should get some magpies

The key is to use a Harli who had a chinchilla, sable, himilayan or REW parent and a chinchilla that had a tort or red parent - then you could get magpies in the first litter
