due tonight.
would have had 10 kits.

but lost her to the heat today... bummers.

I was SO looking forward to seeing her kits...

Oh, I am so sorry...that is a shame. One of my does that got pasteurella had 10 kits when we processed her. She was about 3 weeks along...sending big hugs your way! {{{hugs}}}

I had kits without eyes open wandering out of the nest to lay on the mats in the colony yesterday because it hit 95F and they were too hot sitting on fur. I had to go collect them come evening and put them back in their nests to make sure they'd get fed. We dumped water over the ears of the doe that tends to have issues in the heat and dipped a few others that weren't hard to catch (I figured chasing them to cool them off would only overheat them more) in tubs of water. We left the tubs in the colony pens so they could jump in them if they wanted.

I'm so sorry about your doe Annette :(

I brought a bunch of my big does in to the house today (sat them in the washroom) because it just got to hot in the rabbitry.

so I've got my really preggers does out on the lawn right now....they are looking better...

Wish I could have been home today.

Wish the heat didn't hit so hard today.

Wishing a whole lot of things.... She was SUCH a nice doe. Nice homebred girlie who was as solid as a brick.

my eyes not open kits are all sprawled out on cardboard. :) they look incredibly cute. :)

this is why I don't breed in the summer....IT"S NOT SUMMER YET!

I'm so sorry to hear this! As much as I dislike the cold here, I am grateful it rarely gets too hot for rabbits.

That ia a real bummer, so sorry to hear this. I have a little NZ due in 3 days...My NZ/Cal had 6 kits 5 weeks ago...have them in their grow out cages...3 each to a cage so they can spread out...my cages are all in the shade, with plenty of ventalation, but it is still very hot...muggy..we wnt from 60's last week...to 90's this week...hard on all God's creatures

and here I thought it stayed cool way up there in the north land..sending prayers..

I'm so sorry :(

It was 95 here today and I put a frozen water bottle in with one rabbit and a wet cloth diaper in with the other (only had one bottle in the freezer for some reason...) They seemed to fare okay, but both are young bucks.

Oh, Im so sorry... this is terrible news. Hope the other buns in your herd are doing well. We have had a brutal "almost" summer here, too- makes me worried about the coming months if it is this hot already.

I am happy I have the canopy up-- it is keeping the sun from heating up the concrete patio where the rabbits are. I used a spray bottle on them for the first time today-- at first, they were 'shocked', then seemed to enjoy it..

Pregnancy and heat-- I don;t recall those two things ever fitting together well

Oh ladysown, I am so sorry for your loss. :( I think it's going to be a long, difficult, and very warm summer.

Im sorry you lost her.we normally dont get this kind of heat till August.

I'm really hoping it won't be too bad of a summer....I've other meat does due in two and three weeks --- one being my son's bunny. if this heat continues I may end up using my emergency cages in the house but I'd really rather not as they aren't exactly meant for meat buns....

I'm so sorry :(

This heat came on fast here.We just survived our first few days in the 90's .I'm glad i decided to use frozen gallon jugs instead of a water bottle. It lasted almost the whole day and when i went to check on my girl outside she felt pretty cool.

Oh I am so sorry to hear it. We are still running the heater here in the house, wishing for summer. Now maybe a little less so!

Eco2pia, we are the same way here... today was nice but heater has been on at night... it was 63 in our house yesterday and I finally had to turn it back on.... Can't believe it is so cold in June! It is supposed to storm again this week!

The heat here is absolutely hideous right now. High 90's, ridiculous humidity, and heat indexes over the next 8 days are expected to regularly make it upwards of 105 F.

And we're barely into June. :chair:
