I know I could do what I normally do and just wait it out, but.. I have a kit I'm rather curious on the colour.

LOOKS black initially but closer inspection shows it is not.

The kit underbelly

kit top

Entire litter:

Mom is chocolate (mom chocolate dad black otter)
Dad is black otter (mom tort otter dad chocolate)

If held side by side with black otter kit the colour is just a wee touch off.

If the color is only in the otter areas, then my vote would be on steel otter. Steel+otter darkens the otter pattern.
Mom bun is probably hiding steel, unless dad bun is darker than normal for an otter.

Example of a steel'd otter:

Looks steel otter or seal to me; itll be easier to as it gets old if it is steel otter then you're usually able to see the ticking once the fur gets longer in those areas.

I've never even heard of a steel otter, seal I thought maybe, but I've had seal before and then tend to have this sepia overtone at this age, This kit is missing that. it sure has me intrigued, sometimes it look like a super dark chocolate...
