Yup, we pretty much have the same one - or one very much like it. We changed over to green ink and that helped, but we still sometimes have trouble reading the tats after awhile. Usually we will smear ink on the points and then rub ink into the holes after they've been made but it still seems like a few of the holes don't get inked.
It is quick to use, though. Set the numbers up, smear ink around and clamp the ear. Being careful to miss the big blood veins. I'm not sure if a tag of some sort wouldn't be easier but they'd probably get chewed off somehow?
