I haven't been on in forever! Busy, busy, busy! I just started reading through posts. It'll probably take me awhile to catch up on all of you :)

Here's a little update on us:

We sold off all the the AFL's :)And if you remember, we live in a trailer park :explode: which we strongly dislike, but it's what we have to do right now. We had grand plans to build a bunny barn in a new shed, but alas, not enough cash! So plan B was to build something on our porch. My husband built a roof over our small deck and we semi closed it in with lattice and plastic for now while its still cold and to make it less visible to others. Here are some photos:

This summer we plan to take down that lattice and put privacy lattice from top to bottom. That way, even without the plastic, you really won't be able to see in and there's still some ventilation. And eventually he plans on framing out the doorway and putting in a screen door.

We had decided to get into Mini Lops. We went to a show last weekend and purchased our first two. I really like them both, but I did the dumbest thing ever! The woman I bought them from had a gorgeous chestnut agouti buck that I spotted from far away and instantly fell in love with. Checked him over and purchased him. Then she had this little broken opal jr. doe. I loved her color and was happy to see she had good show potential when I got her out. Now it was SUPER crowded in there and about a thousand degrees. I also had my kids and husband with me and we were standing right near a crowded show table. I guess I felt rushed and NEVER CHECKED THE SEX!!!! Can you believe that??? Got everyone home and lo and behold, my "doe" is a buck!!!! The woman was so nice, I'm sure she didn't do it on purpose. My guess is, she checked the litter early on, sexed him incorrectly, and just didn't check again. She lives super far away so I was just going to resell him and get a doe, but he's growing on me, so he may stay awhile :) So Carol the doe has become Carl the buck!

Your bunnies are so cute....You have made great use of the space you have...looks good!

Looks awesome! Congrats on the new bunnies!

One thing you could do is train some bunny-safe vines to grow on the lattice-work. That will give them shade and food, and give you more privacy to boot. That plastic is ok for a little while, but it will get hot in there and trap all of the odors, etc. The sun will also make the plastic start disintegrating in a few months.

That looks awesome! And, yes, scarlett runner beans should be safe for the buns to eat! I know, when I clean out the bean vines at the end of the season, I don't put them in the compost, I just toss the whole thing in to the runout pen and it is gone in just a little while :p

Looks great! :D We put up plastic, too, to keep out the wind in the winter. We'll be taking ours down very soon.

We started out in a trailer park some 21+ years ago. Hey, you do what you can do. :)

Thanks for the runner bean info. I think that'll be a good option for us once we replace the lattice this summer. Gotta have that plastic in the winter though. We can get some wicked wind. Everyone's still doing well :) My chestnut buck has made a mess of the plastic near his cage already. He's such a sprayer!! Yuck. Gotta get him a doe and quick! He's ready! LOL!!

Ann Claire is right that the leaves and vines of Scarlet Runner Beans are safe for rabbits. The beans themselves should not be fed once the seeds start to fill out, although the odd immature bean pod should not hurt.
