How long can does live together before they start fighting or getting dominant/territorial?
Same question for bucks? I’ve heard they fight less?

We will be keeping some litters past typically processing ages, to monitor health and the potential of them being new breeding stock. We don’t have a bunch of cages to separate all the rabbits we are watching. So, how long can they stay together with their own sex? We can separate them into two grow out cages by sex.

I've had rabbits together for 8 months before (buck and doe pairings) without a problem. The biggest problems I've had is when they are separated for more than a day, and then put together again. With that said, I've had rabbits fight at 12 weeks before so, it can greatly depend on the rabbit themselves.

If they're the same gender than mine stay together until they start fighting and it won't stop (Keep in mind I have small rabbits)

Last time I tried 2 sisters. Worked about 5 months.
It seems to me that there is always a ranking in the pen and the dominant one will overrule. The survival of the fittest

I keep all my rabbits in pairs. Simply because they are social animals, and half the joy I get from rabbits is watching their interactions.

With does, I keep doelings with mom for 5-6 months and select the one that gets along best with her. That makes it easy to pick compatible characters, also they aren't in puberty at the same time like sisters. You can't really tell if characters are compatible before.
Works well for me.

Bucks together, no, most likely doesn't work long term.

Imho it's important that they have enough and structured space - each of my pairs has two hutches that are connected with a tunnel, so they can get out of sight if they feel like it. Also, they get quite some garden time. Never had a real fight.

My buck has a spayed doe as his cuddlebun, and they are my free range house bunnies. There is a downside to that, he sometimes sprays her without regard to where they are, that limits their area to places that are easy to mop up.
