I have all pure bred californian bucks and does, one doe has 16 day old kits and for the last 3.5 days 3/4 kits have open eyes and classic markings, the runt is straggling to open its eyes and it has silver hair and just a bit darker points. We don't have any other rabbits of this color and no other buck got to this doe. And we bred her to our californian buck... I just don't know how we got such an off colored californian kit. The pictures are of the doe, buck and babies then the one again by its self.. it also has what seems to be like dandruff which I just assumed as after birth, but no one else has it any duggestions?

The silvering is due to the kit getting cold, it will fade out again.
the dandruff is just that. OR could be flakes of dried pee from being the weak one in the litter.
It's skin was a bluish tent from kindle on... someone told me maybe deprived of oxygen. I mean it's super fluffy and the fur is silver .. my doe has some light silver ingredients in her points and I thought maybe it was just a gene thing. I'm no expert hehe.

so your doe isn't really californian then but a mix, in which case the kit could just be showing the does mixed parentage. :) sorry I reread your post... you were talking silver in her points.

From what people have told me on the various meat rabbit boards is kits from Californian litter who look silvery is due to them being chilled and the silveryness moults out over time.

Thank you... any places you recommend I connect with other rabbitry folks?

It’s so tiny! The little ones mom is a great mom, in my book, to be able to keep such a little one past the first few days without intervention. I’d love to see more photos as it grows.
